Funder Films CIC

Film making in the community

Funder Films CIC was set up in March 2014 by former BBC radio producer Jasper Bouverie. The intention was to produce film in and around the community where he lives - Wye in Kent - aimed at raising social and environmental awareness.

Recent Projects

Most recently we’ve been working on two specific projects: PixtoFlix and A Place I Love.
These projects started in 2024 and have secured additional funding for 2025-26.

PixtoFlix

This is all about people living with dementia making films! Cats, holidays, house renovations, deer-culling, loving grandchildren, playing football… we’ve made films about them all!

Participants can choose to make a film about whatever they like – just so long as it’s something that has happened to them during their life and they also have a few photographs for illustration. We generally carry out four sessions with each group of 4-6 participants: explanation of the idea and chat about possible subjects; selection and digitisation of photographs; filming session; feedback session.

We also organise a screening at a local venue so that friends and family can see the completed films. In 2024/25, we carried out projects in Whitstable, Hythe and Margate, and are hoping to work in Maidstone and Deal in 2025/26.

A Place I Love

For A Place I Love we use a similar methodology to PixtoFlix. This time though we are working with refugees.

The idea was to produce film with refugees which wasn’t too closely linked to their trauma. By asking them to identify a place that they loved, the intention was that they should feel able to talk about places in their home country or here in the UK.

In 2024 we ran a project with the resettlement team at Ashford Borough Council and heard stories about parks in Ukraine, valleys in Afghanistan and, closer to home, a little Ethiopia which one participant had created in her adopted town.

In 2025, we expanded the project and are hoping to work in Canterbury as well as Ashford.

Ashford films

Over the past few years we have produced a number of films based on the Ashford area including:

  • about the River Stour (in partnership with the Kentish Stour Countryside Partnership)
  • about the areas buildings (Ashford in 100 buildings)
  • about the area’s treasures (Ashford’s Hidden Treasures)
  • about the pandemic (Mayday Mayday: Ashford in 2020 and beyond)
  • a guide to the town for an American community called Ashford made with young people (Dear Ashford Alabama)
  • films made by young people about Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee
